Current Event

This week my current event is over the guy who played the Texas chainsaw massacre’s death. The title of my article is “Gunnar Hansen, ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ villain, dies at 68”. I got my article on cnn.com. Gunnar Hansan, who plays the chainsaw massacre, died at 68 from pancreatic cancer. His movie was very popular in the 70’s. This does not really affect me or the world in a big way.

Current Event

This week my current event is over the cop who dragged the girl out of the classroom because she would not give up her phone. The title of my article is “VIDEO: COP BODYSLAMS GIRL STUDENT WHO REFUSES TO LEAVE CLASSROOM”. I got it on thedailybeast.com. A few days ago a girl had her phone out in class and after her teacher and her principal told her to put it up the school security guard was brought into the mix. She would not give her phone up. The school cop pulled her out of her desk and dragged her around the classroom. In my opinion she should have just listened to her teacher and given her the phone. I do think dragging her around was a little over the top. I don’t think this affects the world in any major way.

Current Event

My article this week is over a 4 year old girl that was shot in some road rage. The title of my article is “Court papers detail road rage shooting that killed 4-year-old N.M. girl”. I got this article on cnn.com. A man was driving when a car cut him off. He pulled up next to the car, got his gun out, and shot the little girl in the back seat. All because of a little road rage. I think that this man should be charged with everything that he got charged for. This event does not really affect me or the world in anyway. It probably did affect any family or close friends involved with either of them.

Journalism Story

My favorite story is the one about the girl who met her mom when she was 14. “I met Mom when I was 14. I needed a new home so the agency set up a meeting. I’d been in many foster homes at that point. The caseworker knew that I was very shy, so she encouraged me to speak up during the meeting. But I didn’t know what to say. I’d been abused so much at that point, the only thing I could think to ask was: ‘Are you good?” This is my favorite because it shows that not all parents are from birth but they are still your true parents. image

Computer Rentals

The vote on renting computers so that the yearbook staff can finish the yearbook will be held Friday, Feb. 6.

The yearbook has a 48-page final deadline on Feb. 27. The school sponsors a “Yearbook Day” where all the seniors can sign each other’s yearbooks.

“MacWorld in Southside agreed to let us rent four Mactintosh computers with the necessary software for $500 for three weeks,” says yearbook adviser, Rodney Stephens, ” That’s an incredibly discounted price and much cheaper than what our yearbook would charge us for a missed deadline.”

If missing the deadline was going to cost more than renting the computers, they should just get the cheaper solution and move on.

“Our yearbook representative warned us that if we didn’t make the deadline, the chances of the book arriving before summer break were slim,” says junior and editor of the yearbook, Alexis Zavia.

A deadline is a very important thing when working in yearbook.

“We have to get our yearbooks before school is out,” says senior, Reggie White, “Yearbook day is one of the highlights of senior year.”

Current Event

The topic of my article is a new kind of animal. The title of my article is “From ‘Dracula’ fish to snub-nosed monkeys: New species found in Himalayas”.  I got my article on cnn.com. The Burmese Stub- nosed monkey is a new discovered species of monkey. These monkeys love the rainy and nasty weather. The only problem is since their noses are flat they have to hold their head between their knees to keep the rain from getting into their nose and making them sneeze. I think this monkey looks a little strange in the face. This new discovery doesn’t really affect the world any major way.

Tobacco Essay

There are many myths about tobacco. There are also many facts about tobacco. One myth about smoking is that smoking is not a drug problem. When it is proven true that smoking is addicting just like drugs. There are differences between the two. When quitting drugs you get a lot of withdrawal symptoms. Not small ones either. They are big and very noticeable. While quitting smoking does not give you as great of withdrawal symptoms as you would have if quitting drugs. All tobacco products contain nicotine, a very addicting substance. A few drinks will increase a craving for tobacco. Also, tobacco users can suffer from nicotine poisoning. The three signs of having nicotine poisoning are dizziness, nausea, and diarrhea. Another myth about tobacco is that only adults smoke cigarettes. Most of us know that this is not true. We have all seen someone, a teenager, smoking. A teenager is not an adult. It is proven to be true that most smokers start when they are around the age of thirteen. Before adulthood. There happens to be more smokers that start when they are kids rather than adults. Another myth is that once you addicted to tobacco you should not even try to quit. There is no point. The damage is done. None of that is true. With a little hard work and dedication it should not be that difficult to quit. Blood pressure and pulse rates go right back to normal after 20 minutes with no smoking. Your lung function will start to improve after one week with no smoking. Risks of all tobacco related diseases are reduced by a lot after ten to fifteen years with no smoking. Most people try about 5 times to stop smoking before they are successful with quitting. Smoking helping your body relax is another myth. The nicotine in tobacco is a stimulate. Stimulates speed your body up not slow it down. There are many other ways to relax your body rather than smoking. Another thing to remember is that smoking may or may not help you lose weight. Smoking works differently on everybody’s body. There are a lot of other safer ways to lose weight rather than smoking.

Current Event

My current event this week is over the college shooting that targets Christians. The title of my article is “Father of Umpqua college shooting victim: Gunman singled out Christians”. I got the article on cnn.com. A shooter walked into a college and started asking people if they were Christians or not. If you said yes you got shot in the head. If you said no you got shot in the leg. This left 10 people dead and 7 wounded. I think that the shooter should get no recognition for what he did. That is what he wants. We should not give it to him. This affects the world because a shooter targeting Christians is a pretty big deal. Especially with all the religious stuff going on.

Current Event

My topic this week is over the crash that took place in Seattle. The title of my article is “Four international students dead as bus, duck tour vehicle collide in Seattle”. I got my article from cnn.com. Thursday morning a duck tour vehicle collided with a tour bus and killed at least 4 people. My position on this issue is that whoevers fault the wreck was should held responsible for all the dead people and all the omes that were hospitalized also. This event did not really impact the world. It does show that we should always be careful on the roads and watch our surroundings.
